Having led the industrial revolution, Greater Manchester is now at the forefront of the green revolution. The city declared a climate emergency in 2019 and is committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2038. As part of this ambitious effort, the Energy Innovation Agency (EIA) unites partners from local government, business, industry, academia, and citizen representatives to tackle this challenge.
The Energy Innovation Agency is a collaboration among Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), The Growth Company, SSE Energy Solutions, The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, and the University of Salford.
This unique partnership aims to accelerate the introduction of energy-related innovations by leveraging the region’s exceptional academic and governmental resources alongside the entrepreneurship and investment capabilities of the industry. This synergy will shorten the journey from discovery to deployment and facilitate the rapid scaling of energy innovations, driving Greater Manchester towards its carbon-neutral goal.
